Meet the Director

Ronald J.Williams is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Colorado Repertory Singers, now in its ninth season. He is beginning his 29th year as a director, and is a proud winner of the Broomfield Community Foundation’s 2009 Heart of Broomfield Award.

Mr. Williams is also the Founder and Artistic Director of The Broomfield Choral Festival, a community chorale that presents an annual major works concert free to the public. He is an active teacher, mentor and coach of piano, voice and composition students in his “Studio B.”

Mr. Williams has produced and directed numerous feature concerts in the greater Denver area, and is also an avid composer. His works are available on Volumes 8, 9 and Holidays from “Masterworks of the New Era,” produced by ERMMedia. His vocal works are performed in concert by area chorales and he has arranged over 130 hymns for small band ensemble, piano and organ.

Mr. Williams holds a Master of Music degree in composition from the University of Colorado and a Master of Business Administration degree from Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida. He is a member of the Colorado Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).

A native Floridian, Mr. Williams holds a Master of Music degree in composition from the University of Colorado, a Bachelor of Music degree in Theory from Stetson University, DeLand, Florida, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida. He has taught vocal and instrumental music on both collegiate and elementary school levels. He is a lifelong pianist and enjoys playing a variety of musical instruments.

Meet the Accompanist

Tad Koriath studied piano at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. While there, he received the School of Music's award for outstanding accompanying and chamber music collaboration as well as festival grants to study and perform chamber music.

Mr. Koriath has accompanied for numerous vocal and instrumental recital. In addition to the Colorado Repertory Singers, he accompanies for the Colorado Children's Chorale. He is the Accompanist and Choir Director at Nativity of Our Lord Church in Broomfield.

Meet the Board of Directors

President: Dawn Miller

Dawn moved to Colorado in May of 2000 with her husband, Terry. They have two children: Samantha 5 and Casey 1. Dawn works for Activant Solutions in Westminster as a Technical Writer helping to create online help documentation for the software they produce. She has a degree in English with a minor in Secondary Education from Florida Southern College.

Music has been in Dawn’s family throughout the generations. Her mother and step father both sang with the Bach Choir in Orlando and continue to sing together in their home church. Dawn’s been singing in choirs since she was eight in the church choir and enjoys all sorts of musical styles. She has experience conducting youth choirs and directing both youth and adult drama teams. Music continues to provide an outlet of creativity that is unlike any other. She is proof that people really do randomly burst into song anywhere.

 

Vice President, Communications: Rebecca Kessler

Rebecca enjoys singing the variety of music as well as sitting under excellent leadership in the CRS. Rebecca maintains a private flute studio in Broomfield. She is active in local flute choirs, substitutes in local orchestras, and performs as a soloist. In a midlife career switch she returned to school and earned a BA degree in music, flute performance, from North Central College in Naperville, IL.

Prior to her career change, Rebecca was a Psychiatric Nurse Specialist working with children and parents in an Outpatient Pediatric Clinic. Currently she is serving as a Deaconess at Rocky Mountain Presbyterian Church and is active developing ministry there.

Moving to Colorado in 2005 was a realization of a long time dream, especially since her daughter's family lives in Broomfield. In addition to music, Rebecca enjoys reading, gardening, Rocky Mountain National Park, and being Ella's and Jude's grandmother.

Vice President, Performance: David Early

David comes from a family with a strong tradition in vocal music. His grandmother and uncle sang for Mormon Tabernacle Choir and his sister currently performs with the Seattle Opera Company. In spite of a doctoral degree in engineering, David has maintained a love for singing over the years, participating in large and small choral organizations everywhere he has lived. One of David’s favorite experiences was singing under Mack Wilberg, a current Mormon Tabernacle Choir director, for 6 years in BYU Men’s Chorus. David travels extensively as a sales engineer for IBM and welcomes weekly CRS rehearsals as quality “date nights” with his wife! David is pleased to join his wife this year on the board in supporting quality choral music in the community.

Vice President, Fundraising: Joan Williams

Joan was born and raised in DeLand, Florida, a sleepy college town in the north central part of the state. She moved to Colorado with her husband, Ron, fourteen years ago so that he could pursue a Masters Degree in music at the University of Colorado in Boulder. She and Ron loved the beauty of the Denver area and have been here ever since. An interior design major at Florida State University, her career has taken many turns and she is currently the communications specialist for the Development Department of Promise Keepers, a national Christian men’s ministry.

As wife of Director Ron Williams for 39 years, Joan has been privileged to sing in choirs and chorales under his direction for over 28 years. She is a founding member of the Colorado Repertory Singers, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Broomfield Choral Festival. She enjoys producing graphic design and promotional pieces for both the CRS and the Broomfield Choral Festival. She is an avid reader and gardener and enjoys sewing and crafts. She and Ron have two children and three grandchildren. Their daughter, Becky, is currently serving with the Peace Corps in Honduras.

Treasurer: Frances Saxon

Frances Saxon was raised in Michigan City, Indiana. At 19, she left Indiana to join the US Air Force for 5 years. Frances has always loved to sing and dance. She has been a part of the CRS for eight years, and feels closer to God when she is singing. She and Richard have been married over 37 years, and have two children and a granddaughter, Greta, who is 2.

Before retiring in 2006, Frances had worked for Boulder Valley Schools for over 24 years. She now enjoys the support and fellowship of selling Mary Kay Cosmetics. She has been involved in ministry to women and children for over 40 years as part of the United Methodist Women and missions work. She has a simple philosophy in life and that is - Hang in there … be happy in what you are doing; have a friend that you can say anything too; and always be there for a sister in need.

Secretary: Keri Batchelder

Keri has lived in Colorado for almost four years, after transplanting from the East Coast, and is a new member to the Colorado Repertory Singers. She is on the faculty in the Department of Social Work at Colorado State University, and works as an Instructor and Research Associate for the Social Work Research Center at CSU. Keri received her Master of Social Work from Colorado State University and has her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Music, from the University of New Hampshire.

At UNH, Keri sang with the University Concert Choir, and she has been involved in musical pursuits since childhood playing piano, trumpet, hand bells and always singing! CRS has brought music performance back into her life, and she is grateful for the creative outlet! Keri also enjoys being involved in the music and Christian education life of the UCC church in Broomfield, doing volunteer work with the Human Rights Campaign and cheering on her favorite New England sports teams!

Soprano Section Leader: Sue Lyon

Sue Lyon was raised in the Midwest and moved to Colorado to attend college at the foot of Pike's Peak.  After graduating from The Colorado College, she moved to Washington, D.C. to work for a U.S. Senator.  Law school followed and a stint in the Solicitor's office of the Department of the Interior.  She returned to Colorado with her husband and two children and turned her talents to writing historical fiction.  She is the author of four Western historical novels.  Broomfield has been "home" for 21 years.

Alto Section Leader: Anna Seipmann

Anna is an educator and homemaker. She holds a bachelors degree in history and Latin from Haverford College, and a masters degree in Education from CU Boulder. Since moving to Colorado in 1999 and completing her teaching degree, Anna has taught high school social studies in Boulder Valley Schools. She currently works individually with middle school and high school students who wish to improve their success in school. In her free time, Anna enjoys singing with Colorado Repertory Singers, skiing and gardening.

Tenor & Bass Section Leader: Fred Wood

Originally from South Carolina, not too far from Myrtle Beach, Fred holds an Industrial Management/Engineering degree from Clemson University, and is employed as an Industrial Engineer with AAI Acquisition, a manufacturer of jet aircraft. Fred has been involved in music since going to Sunbeams with a neighbor in the second grade. He has been involved in church choirs and hand-bell choirs since high school.

Fred started playing clarinet in grammar school under the direction of an old Navy band director by the name of “Captain Bill” Williams. While at Clemson he sang with the Clemson Chorale Society and played both clarinet and bass clarinet in the Clemson University Tiger Band, Concert Band and Pep Band. While in the USAF, he sang with a quartet at Chapel 2 at Lowery AFB, and with the Chapel Choirs at MacDill AFB, and Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Base, the choir that won the worldwide Air Force competition in 1968. He is the proud father of two sons who have both been involved in vocal and instrumental music.
